5 Things Inspiring Me: October 2024

Adobe MAX, upcoming markets and creative hangouts.

Miami, 10/16/24

Heyyy there! Happy spooky season. 👻🎃 I’ve been too busy to think about my own halloween costume, but I spontaneously made some miniature polymer clay pumpkins for my smiskis the other day. I think that’s good enough. 😂

I’m also gearing up for more travel as the year comes to a close. 🛫 I’ll be heading to Oahu, Seoul, Kyoto, and Tokyo. If you have any recs please message me!

I’m also organizing some casual creative hangouts in LA, Oahu and Tokyo this December. If you’re in the area, let me know! More details to come. 👀

🙌 CHEERFUL NEWS

  1. I started a video series sharing my experience switching from corporate → art full-time → corporate again. 📹 So far I’ve shared 3 videos on my highlights, lowlights, and time management tips while pursuing these career pivots and I’m in awe by all the responses. Feel free to message me if there’s anything specific you want me to cover.

  2. I’m vending at Maum Market next month on 11/23 12-4PM at The Row DTLA. 🛍️ Holiday season is here and I’m excited to be back at this event selling my stationery products and surf-inspired goods. My online shop is open too but if you want to save on shipping or say hi to me in person, come through! Tickets are $5 and can be purchased here.

5 THINGS INSPIRING ME

1. ARTIST: Cody A Banks

Cody is an illustrator based in Chicago that creates awesome characters out of thin air that evoke chill vibes. He’s created work for chill rap / low-fi musical artists, started a fun illustration series drawing characters out of moo things, and even started a wholesome video series with his daughter drawing fun characters together.

Check out his work here.

2. BOOK: ACOTAR Series

This summer was the first time in 15+ years that I read a fantasy book. I started by reading the Fourth Wing Series which I LOVED, but this fall I began reading the ACOTAR series with my girlfriends. It’s been so fun diving into a fictional world and having a little book club to bring us together. I’m on book 3 and can’t wait to keep reading!

Check out the book here.

3. CONFERENCE: Adobe MAX

I was invited to Adobe’s annual conference in Miami and was inspired in so many ways. It’s been a dream of mine to attend this event because it gathers creatives from around the world to build community and bring inspiration grounded from Adobe’s latest features. I came out of the event with new connections and tons of project ideas.

Check out the recorded sessions here and my takeaway video here.

4. MUSIC: Lawrence

I featured this band in my newsletter 2 years ago but I want to spotlight them again because I FINALLY saw them perform in LA and the concert was even more inspiring. They’re a soul-pop band from NY led by a brother/sister duo who have amazing chemistry and voices, backed by talented brass musicians, and know how to host an insanely creative and engaging show.

Check out their music video here.

5. SMALL BIZ: Full Belly Farms

I debated sharing this because I almost want to keep it to myself... But that would be selfish and I want to support them. 😂 They’re a family-owned farm just north of Davis, CA that has been one of the first farms to use organic practices since 1985. They sell their produce to restaurants and consumers via markets and CSA, and they host monthly family-style dinners with AMAZING food.

Check out the farm here.
